ABOUT YEMAYA PITTSBURGH
Yemaya Pittsburgh is an organization dedicated to empowering lives, promoting social awareness, and engendering social change through art and education. The project was founded in 2012 to respond to the need for diversity and cultural education in the Pittsburgh region. Yemaya derives from the Western Nigeria Ifa tradition representing the ocean, maternity, and womanhood. She was brought to the New World during the African Diaspora and is globally revered as Our Great Mother. Yemaya Pittsburgh embraces the values of Yemaya: peace, love, community and acceptance. By embracing these values in our programs and services, we believe that we can strengthen our communities and create a more diverse region that will attract and sustain newcomers. We offer community events, artistic productions, youth dance workshops, professional development training, and more.
